Bury Me
03:32
|
|||
November winds blow and I'm the last leaf left upon the tree
Beside a lonesome bird who sings a song of warning
And when that bird flies the branch I'm on is left to tremble
And with one last gust it's over
When I let go the winter's gonna come
When the light of day shatters on the snow
And the frozen ground - soon it will become my new home
And in the springtime I'm still cold and lying here
After icy chains give way to the warming
When that bird returns to watch over the seaon
New leaves bud upon that branch and take my place
When I let go the winter's gonna come
When the light of day shatters on the snow
And the frozen ground - soon it will become my new home
There's no way back for me
There's no way back for me
So why don't you bury me
Bury me
November winds blow and you're the last leaf left upon the tree

Dark of Day

We shared a common delusion That's why you caught my eye
It seemed a little precarious At least I had to try
Used every beautiful word I knew Until I made you cry
But in the end you figured out my unintentional lie
I'd rather see by the light of night
Than by the dark of day
I can't seem to get it right
I stand in my own way sometimes
I never got what you wanted But I knew it wasn't free
You'd hide your face when they'd come around
But I had people to see So we couldn't get eye to eye on that we did agree
When I finally chose my path you couldn't follow me
I'd rather see by the light of night
Than by the dark of day
I can't seem to get it right
I stand in my own way sometimes
The fake lines unravelled almost from the start
We tried to hold them together we took it all to heart
The tangled web of confusion it was a work of art
A temporary creation it had to fall apart
I'd rather see by the light of night
Than by the dark of day
I can't seem to get it right
I stand in my own way sometimes

For The Money
03:58
|

The flood water has made it to the high side of the road
It's getting hotter as the seasons they come and go
Our sons and daughters
Will be stuck with this mess we've made
So open your eyes to the lies of the men
That shake the whole world down for the money
They use freedom to cover up the stories that they tell
They teach their children to believe their fantasies as well
And if they stumble they fear that they'll trip straight down to hell
So open your eyes to the lies of the men
That shake the whole world down for the money
We've gotta do better at finding a truth we can sustain
If it offends them you know it's working when they call you out by name
Stand together and we'll send them on their way
So open your eyes to the lies of the men
That shake the whole world down for the money
The flood water has made it to the high side of the road
It's getting hotter as the seasons they come and go
Our sons and daughters
Please do all that you can do
And open your eyes to the lies of the men
That shake the whole world down for the money

Sanctuary

Sitting waiting watching out the window
While he argues with the voices in his head
I don't think he'd ever go outside and face the world
If he listened to a single word they said
Today he couldn't be his own companion
Or even walk a mile in his own shoes
Wrapped up with for familiar walls around him
Stuck inside those sanctuary blues
He's got both hands wrapped around a bottle
And he can't convince himself to put it down
The angel on his shoulder is now the devil in his mind
This afternoon he wants to watch them drown
Today he couldn't be his own companion
Or even walk a mile in his own shoes
Wrapped up with for familiar walls around him
Stuck inside those sanctuary blues
He'll put himself on trial in the morning
And when the judge's verdict's handed down
He'll finally take a little bit of his freedom
And make it almost all the way to town
Today he couldn't be his own companion
Or even walk a mile in his own shoes
Wrapped up with for familiar walls around him
Stuck inside those sanctuary blues

Passerby

I've had lots of heroes come and go
But so few have stood the test of time
So I guess it never seems to me as strange
When one goes down a new one's found the world goes round
Safely on the sidelines
The best seats in the whole damned place
There's no dirt and there's no danger
You just play the game you wait you watch it's not the same
I'm just young enough to realize
That I'm not too old to try
To switch it on and not just be a passerby
The loves I've lost the things that bring me pain
Are too easy to deny
Bundled up and buries in the ground
I could adore or just ignore my inner war
When it's time to pack up and move on
And throw it all aside
You can't forget the wisdom you have earned
The compromises or the lies that no one buys
I'm just young enough to realize
That I'm not too old to try
To switch it on and not just be a passerby
As a father and a brother and a son
There are many debts to pay
My best it better be just good enough
To keep them safe to keep me sane to asctertain
What went right and what went oh so wrong
Lessons learned on the flipside
I'm young enough, I'm old enough I'm cold enough
To speak my mind I won't relent I won't rewind
I'm just young enough to realize
That I'm not too old to try
To switch it on and not just be a passerby
